Alexey Navalny’s first arrest came in December 2011 as he addressed a crowd of 10,000 at an unauthorized street rally to protest recent Russian elections.

Navalny had gathered evidence that proved the vote tallies in Moscow and St. Petersburg voting precincts had been rigged in favor of the candidates of Putin’s United Russia political party.
