Row houses that faced the Galveston Beach, home to 50 people who were among those killed on September 8, 1900.

The storm had passed, and Galveston — devastated and in ruin — was cut off.

Relief supplies poured into the wharf at Texas City, where boats ferried them across Galveston Bay.
