Six years before he published his first children’s book, Dr. Seuss (age 27) drew illustrations for a little book published by Viking Press entitled Boners, by Those Who Pulled Them (1931).
At the time, the slang term “boner” meant blooper or gaffe, and the boners in the book were drawn from high school students’ exams and essays.
