Wirz is buried in a Catholic cemetery in the Washington DC area and maybe 20 years ago a group raised funds to put a new grander stone marker on it. They invited reenactors with Confederate impressions as well as Union reenactors to atttend and participate in the placement ceremonies. I don’t know who actually attended but I do know that the organizers took a lot of heat and some invective from the community of Union reenactors.
Speaks to the power some truth has within it. They diligently served the truth. Go them.
