Bruno Tesch and two other German chemists discovered a process in the 1920s which could make the poisonous chemical hydrogen cyanide usable in solid form.
The discovery opened the door to new commercial applications for the poison.
The product was given the name “Zyklon-B” and marketed as a fumigating insecticide.1
